12 decentralized warm air heaters with condensing boiler technology and ventilation function
Kessler & Co
As part of a new building project, Kessler & Co. planned an energy-efficient heating solution that not only met the highest technical requirements, but also took up as little space as possible. The aim was to ensure a constantly pleasant room temperature in the large production hall – while at the same time maximizing energy efficiency. The new light-flooded hall with a total area of around 32,000 m² was to be heated evenly during the heating period in winter and kept at a pleasant temperature in summer. To achieve this, Kessler & Co. commissioned LK Metall to implement a modern and climate-friendly heating concept. The choice fell on the RBW decentralized hot air heaters from LK Metall, which are characterized by their compact design, high efficiency and environmentally friendly condensing technology – ideal for large industrial spaces with high demands on comfort and sustainability.
Thanks to the space-saving ceiling units from LK Metall, the available production area could be optimally utilized. A total of twelve RBW 250 hot air heaters, each with a heating capacity of 160 kW, were installed in the upper area of the shed roof – including ceiling fans for even air distribution. With an efficiency of over 105%, the condensing boiler technology ensures maximum efficiency. The control of the heating system automatically adapts to the current temperature conditions in the hall. For safe and easy installation, the technology was individually adapted to the ceiling construction – including consideration of structural requirements.
In addition, rising hall air from process waste heat and solar radiation is used via the skylights to further increase energy efficiency. The hall air is extracted, filtered, mixed with fresh air, heated via the combustion chamber and fed back in draught-free. Stainless steel mesh filters are used to remove dust and aerosols. A modulating fan-assisted gas burner provides the required heat output. Sensor-controlled return air ceiling fans reduce the temperature stratification to below 0.5 °C per meter – for uniform temperatures throughout the hall and noticeable CO₂ savings.
The project result – a constant 18 °C on 32,000 m²
The production hall is now reliably heated to a pleasant 18 °C. The installation was completed in just two months – without interrupting construction site operations. The high level of customer satisfaction is also reflected in the fact that Kessler & Co. once again opted for the same solution with LK Metall for another new hall – this time with six more units in an identical design.
The RBW warm air heaters also ensure an optimum indoor climate in summer. With the help of the integrated mixed air unit, cool outside air is used to improve the indoor temperature. An automatic night-time summer ventilation control system draws in fresh air at night to efficiently dissipate the heat that has built up during the day. “This means that the RBW warm air heaters are also used in summer to maintain a pleasant daytime temperature,” reports Harald Wimmer after commissioning.
The system is controlled via modern PLC technology with touch displays on four control cabinets. Central operation via PC was also implemented – the twelve devices are integrated into the company network for this purpose. The decentralized installation under the hall roof makes the system flexibly scalable – with up to 99 % efficiency.
