LK tangential separator as a customized system solution

The task

The customer from the metalworking industry had been facing the challenge of reliably treating its process water in recirculation mode for several years. In particular, the separation of difficult-to-separate phases of the lubricant medium repeatedly led to inadequate results.

Various oil separator systems from different manufacturers had previously been tested. None of the solutions used were able to ensure the required separation performance in the long term and without impairing the production process. At the same time, the space available in the production area was severely restricted, meaning that only a compact system could be considered.

The solution from LK Metall

On the recommendation of LK Metall, the use of an LK tangential separator was initially tested as part of a trial. With the help of an LK test system, the existing process water could be analyzed and treated under real operating conditions.

The results were convincing due to a significantly improved media preparation compared to all previously tested separation technologies. Based on these results, LK Metall implemented a customized system with:

  • Tangential separator for efficient phase separation
  • Integrated level measurement technology
  • Drip tray
  • Adapted MSR technology according to customer requirements
  • Integration into the on-site system and control technology

The system was installed during ongoing production and the final integration took place during a planned system shutdown.

The result

With the new solution, the customer was able to operate its process water in a permanently stable circuit for the first time. The LK tangential separator also reliably handles viscous media without causing disruptions to the production process.

Thanks to its compact design, the system could be optimally integrated into the existing production area despite the limited space available. At the same time, it meets the required separation performance with a constant media flow and contributes to the sustainable use of the process water.

The project is an example of how LK Metall solves complex tasks in industrial water treatment through sound advice, practical testing and customized system technology – for the sake of the climate.
