Voith Group
The Isar power plant in Bad Tölz, which went into operation at the end of the 1950s, has been producing around ten million kilowatt hours of electricity every year for more than six decades, supplying 3,500 households and thus covering a quarter of the entire energy requirements of the town of Bad Tölz.
For the first time in a long time, extensive maintenance work was due to be carried out in 2022/2023, during the course of which the treatment of the seepage water from the turbines was to be redesigned and implemented before it could be fed back into the Isar. At the same time, a non-visible installation site was to be found for the corresponding systems and piping.
For the efficient and reliable treatment of seepage water from two Kaplan turbines, LK Metall installed a customized separator system in the nacelle at the level of the water turbines. The compact solution combines a welded sludge trap (2,500 liters) with an oil separator that achieves a maximum throughput capacity of 15 l/s.
The water contaminated by the necessary lubrication of the shafts is separated directly at the turbine using the separator system. In this way, the leakage of grease, oil and light liquids containing hydrocarbons can be effectively prevented with the LK separator and the cleaned leachate can be discharged into the Isar.
Thanks to the innovative design, in which the sludge trap was welded directly to the oil separator, we were able to implement a space-saving and high-performance solution. In addition, an integrated WHG overfill protection with oil storage control system ensures maximum safety during operation. A customer-specific adaptation enables the oil reservoir to be emptied conveniently at the touch of a button using a compressed air diaphragm pump.
The entire system was designed in accordance with the applicable DIN 1999-100 and EN 858-1 standards, meets the highest technical requirements for wastewater treatment and stands for active environmental protection.
The successful collaboration will continue after the project has been completed: LK Metall will look after the system at the request of the operator by carrying out regular maintenance and general inspections.
