High-performance heat exchangers that work reliably under extreme climatic and operating conditions were to be developed for the international export order of a German special plant manufacturer.
The specifications: Heating an air volume flow of 80,000 m³/h to up to 100 °C – with a planned installation at an altitude of 1,700 m above sea level (in Mexico and the USA, among other places). The demands on materials, dimensions and thermal stability were correspondingly high. In addition, it was a completely new design that had to be adapted to both the large flow rate and the special pressure and temperature conditions at this altitude. These boundary conditions placed high demands on the design of the combustion chambers, particularly with regard to efficiency and operational reliability under reduced oxygen supply.
LK Metall designed a total of 16 highly specialized insert heat exchangers made of heat and corrosion-resistant stainless steel (1.4828 / 1.4541). The components were adapted precisely to the customer’s thermal design specifications and offer a net heating output of 375 kW per unit.
Thanks to precise planning, design and production, the required air speed and the target temperature of 100 °C were met. The systems were fully pre-assembled, tested and prepared for overseas export.
