Thomann GmbH
As a global online retailer of musical instruments, Thomann faced a particular challenge: the products stored and displayed – including high-quality wooden instruments – are extremely sensitive to temperature fluctuations, dust exposure and humidity.
The existing heating system was unable to meet the requirements for uniform, material-friendly air conditioning. The result: loss of quality, complaints and increasing maintenance costs.
Around 24,000 items are stored in the 7,700 m² logistics halls in Treppendorf – from euphoniums and cajons to guitars, pianos and string instruments. In order to do justice to these sensitive goods, a differentiated climate concept had to be developed. The temperature control of the continuous hall with three different climate zones was particularly challenging: Pallet warehouse, small parts warehouse and goods receiving area – each with specific temperature specifications between 16 and over 20 degrees.
LK Metall developed a customized solution with directly heated hot air generators, supplemented by sensitive control and regulation technology and multi-stage filter units for dust reduction.
Complex duct systems ensure that the warm air is optimally distributed in the storage, dispatch and sales areas. Temperature and humidity sensors were strategically placed so that the system reacts to the smallest fluctuations and the desired climate values are kept constant.
The entire heating system is controlled via a building management system in combination with several thermostats. Automatic activation takes place as soon as the temperature in an area falls below the programmed target temperature. Return air ceiling fans and differential temperature control ensure that the heat is distributed evenly. Particularly efficient: up to 95 % of the energy used is converted into heat. In the summer months, the system can also be used for night cooling, allowing the air temperature and air quality to be regulated as required.
The result: Sensitive goods – perfectly tempered
Thanks to the LK solution, Thomann can now reliably control three defined temperature zones – over an area of several thousand square meters. The instruments are stored under ideal climatic conditions, which not only preserves their value but also has a positive impact on the customer’s shopping experience.
The entire system was installed in just three weeks – without disrupting ongoing operations. The individually tailored heating solution continues to demonstrate its strengths day after day – in terms of efficiency, reliability and precision.
